So here's a cool update. The manufacturer (LG) agreed to repair (parts, labor and shipping both ways) for $150 plus a 90-day warranty on the repair. They claim they can get it back to me in 10 days. Pretty impressive.

If anyone's thinking about getting appendicitis, I'd advise against it. It's been over a day and I'm still trying to clear my throat from having a breathing tube put down my throat during surgery.
