Rumor has it that WDFN will drop all local programming and just have ESPN radio all day. Looks like we are down to 1 sports station.

I pray to God this doesn't happen.
97.1 ISN'T a sports station. All their shows & hosts are complete bullshit.

I hate 97.1's open lines all day style not to mention how they hang up on so many people and complain if the call disagree's with their points of view.

Muhme would comment but he can't find the thread with all these forums.
Remember last year when I had an argument with either Denny or Fool about how I thought Colin Cowherd was right when he said Detroit would have trouble supporting four major sports franchises because the city was about to head into the total shit zone?
And now Detroit can't even support its' newspapers, more than ONE sports talk station (Omaha, Ne-fucking-braska supports THREE), and the major industries that built Michigan up are about to go belly up. This fucking city, and this fucking state are about to die, and it has been happpening for 30 fucking years. Lights out for Michigan, ladies.
Yes Zip. Detroit is the only city in which newspapers are folding and sports radio is cutting back. Clear Channel, the company that owns WDFN is going syndicated programming nationwide. All because of Detroit and Detroit alone.
Colin Cowherd. That's who you take your economic news from.
The expected cuts are tomorrow so we will see if the rumors are true.
Wellll, and he's doing quite well, is he not? You and the rest of Detroit can hold on to some dreamy vision of the past and you have Mitch Albom's sappy self-serving Hallmark card writing ass to bolster you, but Detroit is about to go legs up. Who knows? Maybe a miracle will happen when the last UAW loyalist is laid off and the lights finally go out at GM, Chrysler and Ford, and people there will finally get it and come up with something other than hoping the taxpayers bail them out of a self-created mess.Quote:

Clear Channel bloodbath is WDFN toast?
The New York Post is reporting that Clear Channel Communications is about to wax a lot of employees starting this Tuesday.
"Clear Channel was built through a series of acquisitions that generally weren't consolidated very well," said one source, alluding to the late '90s buying spree that put more than 1,000 stations under the Clear Channel umbrella, making it the nation's largest radio company.
It is no secret that Clear Channel is financially challenged and the new owners are about to slice the 30,000 person workforce massively. In Detroit Clear Channel owns 1130 and 1310 AM, 97.9 and 93.1 as well as 100.3 and 95.5. Look for all the stations to consolidate staff and for many well known names to lose their jobs.
I think WDFN is a goner, I've been hearing rumors for months that WDFN would let go of the entire air staff and flip the switch to and ESPN branded version of 1130 and why not, management gave up the fight long ago to WXYT. Stoney and Wojo are under contract but it wouldn't surprise me if they were bought out much the same way Jamie Samuelsen was dispatched a year ago. I expect most of the support staff will also be let go including the Programming and Production staffs. WDFN could soon become a radio station run by a computer in a closet, nice and cheap.
It isn't a coincidence that ESPN revamped its lineup just this week, is it to attempt to appeal to a whole boatload of Clear Channel sports stations converting to the ESPN brand? You bet!
Most local music Air Personalities will be lost in Detroit with the exception of a very few. The only survivors will be the Morning Show and some of them won't be saved.
Just yesterday it was reported that the new PD at WKQI would be a woman from New York who would fly in a couple days a week and grace Detroit with her presence. Face it, Clear Channel NEVER cared about local radio and the call SHOULD get louder to break up these big companies that aren't serving the local audience. What Clear Channel has done to local radio is criminal and they shouldn't be allowed to have a monopoly.
What is even more sad is that Clear Channel is planning "Black Tuesday" to coincide with the Inauguration of Barack Obama in the hopes that the media will be looking the other way.
WDFN is still on the air.
Thankfully.
I've never been so happy to hear Rob Otto's voice.
Now that the distractio... er... Inaugration is underway, Clear Channel will probably feel safe to make their move.
Sean Beligian was let go. According to himself via facebook.

Its over. Everything the other guy said was right. Everyone is gone.
WDFN as you know it is over.
Stoney says to you and everyone on the board thanks for the support.

Say it ain't so.
The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society loses, too.
Everyone loses.
That's very unfortunate.
I feel bad for Matt Dery, Rob Otto, Baligian & co.
They did an outstanding job and it's a shame this happened so quickly.
R.I.P. WDFN
Web site down.
The worst part is that they never made any sort of announcement about the cancellation on the air they just started airing Chris Myers.
I listen to this shit every day on the way home on XM.
It's tolerable when Myers/Farnham are there but the fill ins are terrible.
Derek Deese, Lincoln Kennedy, Denny Hocking, all ex-jocks that shouldn't even be in radio.
Change...
well that bites.
Is Andrew Siciliano still going to be on late evenings?
I can 'tolerate' him when I'm at school...
Siciliano has the 6-10pm slot, I think, and then they have JT The Brick and then Big Ben Maller.
So who's going to be doing the pistons pre-game and post-game?
I would assume Diesel would he was doing updates still, so they may be keeping him around.
Probably in part due to the existence of a forum.Quote:

WTF?!?!
I turned to the WDFN today to get some feedback on the Rip benching and heard the national crap. This sucks. We need a grassroots effort....
