Good luck sir. I'm not quite sure how you plan on blue-ing the sky right about the roof, but I have faith in you.
Maybe you should hire Ledezma and Zekyl to be your apprentices.
Wow, Gl'Enn, I hadn't noticed your sig before. Well played.
That's gonna be one badass RV.
Are you going to live there or sell it? Or is it a job for someone?
I've put on some additions before but never made my own house. Might like to one day in my retirement.
just make sure you hide the trusses in that window over the garage...pet peeve of mine
This one will most likely be mine. It is possible to get an offer during the building process that you can't refuse, but I doubt it in this market.Quote:

My degree is in computer science. I did good in that field, but there is nothing like building, imo, so switched. I wish I knew that when I was a youngster.
Done...and I agree. The last one I put in was actually a plexi of some sort with a black backing. My buddy bought it. I don't remember what it was called for sure. It had NO air flow though.Quote:

I wanted it to be a lil more of a ranch style and something that fit that area of Heritage Oak trees. The CA/Meds will be dated in another 5 years, if not already. The house I'm building should be timeless in that area. You can go back 35 years and see houses something like this house. They are still desirable, so I thought I'd make a break from the old and go to the older.
The tree on the left is a fire hazard. Also, extending branches might harm your roof tiles if the wind is strong.
Also there's a lot of squiggly black lines all over the place. Are those fleas? I'm only saying this due to the horse trailer in the photo.
If so:
a) that illustrator is really fucking anal retentive about detail.
b) Call Orkin at 1(866)949-1753
At this point, the city barely lets me walk underneath those trees. It cost me a bundle for approvals just to build close to them.
Horse trailer? How dare you call my Construction trailer a horse trailer.
I've got a willow tree that has two main trunks. One of the trunks broke in half and fell through the ceiling of my daughter's room (have I mentioned that here already?). I keep finding semi-large limbs that have fallen due to snow/ice buildup. Trees suck.
Willow's are cool looking though
You can't avoid trees when building in Tahoe. There so frickin tall and the wind blows like crazy up there sometimes.
These limbs are so huge, they would fall straight down. And I'm not (and it takes an act of congress to) encroaching on their root systems. So I'm pretty much out of harms way on this one. Whether it looks like or not.
These oaks don't uproot as much as the limbs break and they come straight down.
There is a real difference between completing a real physical structure that has size and/or effect on it's surroundings and making making computer files (that's what I do now). It's nice to feel your muscles strain as well as your mind be challenged.Quote:

The company I left bought Oracle just as I was leaving. Fuckers! I lobbied hard for that and they bought it on my way out the door.

That's a fucking Toy Hauler, not a construction trailer.
Whatcha gonna build your house with -- two ATV's and a dirt bike?
You need to go back to Trailer School
The trailer Denny cites doesn't usually hold tools does it? Isn't it used as a temporary on-site office for the manager?

I think I finally frickin get a shovel in the fricken ground by the end of the week.
I'm going to...
LEARN HOW TO MAKE A WEBSITE
I can only hope that the thread will be that good. As far as the end product, mine has to be quality.
It's amazing what I had to go through this time around for a lil construction cash. But I hope I'll get the ok by the end of the week and all y'all won't have to suffer with me and my shitty posts all day every day.
Finally - Shovel in ground! May 18th
Congrats. Remember WTF's cut.
thx foo

Kind of like that other guy, today is a day of rest. j/k
How big is your crew?
3 and me
Thats 1 day, but we busted butt today at the end. It took a long time to get the box square and how i wanted it, so after that we busted ass to make it look like we did something. And we did do something today.
In the shadow at the top on the left stretching to the middle, that's just the form then, not concrete.
Correct. It drops off underneath the oak. Its just the outside form board. We'll be done by mid-day tomorrow, the plumber will show up 10ish. He can work out by the street tying in the sewer and water if we're not ready for him inside yet.
It basically goes...
Outside form board
ground plumbing
ground electrical
grade inside, rebar in footings
INSPECTION
pour footings
rock
pour slab
If you pour these things monolithic, you lose way too much concrete (money) on the sluf from the rock to the footings. It's an extra day, but you still save. Little slabs you can pour in 1 shot.
What kind of rock?
Do you ever build basements?
What is your total cost estimate for the project?
3/4 crushed
Not out here.
My wife and I are the only peeps who know, but depending on permits, you'd be looking at 95-135 per sq ft costs, without profit and O/H.
Thats with some stepped down quality from a couple million dollar house. Still Stainless appliances, granite counter tops, tile showers, wood floors though.
Where do you get the capital?
Believe it or not, I secured a construction loan on this one. I've got a fairly good track record. I've build big houses out of pocket, but went with a pain-in-the-ass construction loan on this one.
I expect to live in this one for a while, but its a location across from a park and in and older established neighborhood, so its possible someone could make me an offer for it, but I doubt it. comma crazy
